However, in the past years great improvements have been made to the technology, latest flat-panel plasma TVs being very resistant to the burn-in phenomenon. Today's plasma TVs are not burn-in proof though, the risk to develop this annoying problem existing in all displays based on phosphors. However, the chance to get permanent burn-in on the latest TVs is slim to none if you don't abuse it. You don't have to retain yourself from playing games on your plasma nor do you have to switch the channel every five minutes. You can use your TV as you like, and you don't even have to think about the chance of getting plasma burn-in as long as you follow a few common sense rules.

In terms of overall quality, Samsung PN50A650 is somewhere between Panasonic PZ800U/PZ850U series and PZ80U/PZ85U series (also from Panasonic). It is a plasma TV that doesn’t excel in any area, while managing to be better than the pack. No matter what aspect we take into consideration, it will not be able to outperform Pioneer Kuro or the high-end models from Panasonic. That being said though, for its price it offers great value. It is cheaper than Pioneer and high-end Panasonic models, so for those of you who must keep an eye on the budget, it is a very good plasma TV to buy.

Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ800U is not a cheap model, being one of the top models from Panasonic, but considering the quality it offers it makes the best deal. This combination of high quality and approachable price will probably make Panasonic TH-50PZ800U one of the most popular plasma TVs of this year. In a nutshell, you get deep blacks, accurate colors, good anti-glare screen and plenty of connectivity options, all packed in a sleek design.

As you would expect from a top-of-the-line Panasonic plasma TV, this model has 1080p resolution and offers very good picture quality. Though its black levels don't match those of Pioneer models, they are still very good and provide great shadow depth and detail. The color reproduction of TH-50PZ850U is also very good, and together with the deep black levels it manages to offer excellent picture quality. This model from Panasonic comes with extra features like the ability to watch YouTube movies and Google Picasa pictures. Unfortunately, though these are nice features to have, they increase the price.

Not big surprises this year. As I was expecting Pioneer and Panasonic maintained their positions as leaders. Samsung seems to bring improved models, though they are not a threat for the previously mentioned manufacturers. The best plasma TV models of this year are represented by Pioneer Elite. They are our top pick since they offer absolutely fantastic picture quality and a full array of features. The "regular" Pioneer Kuro models from this year come next. With some slight issues but still at the top. Panasonic top of the line models come as a threat to Pioneer Kuro line this year. The difference between them and the Kuros being a small one. Panasonic also brings us some of the best cheap(er) plasma TVs. Samsung, though with a dissapointing anti-glare performance is also worthy of your attention. It doesn't match Pioneer and Panasonic picture quality but it compensates with a bunch of features. Come and find out more!

These are the top rated plasma TVs on the market. Since plasma TVs come in various sizes it woudn't be fair to pick one single model as the best plasma tv. Instead we tell you which are the best plasma TVs for various sizes and resolutions (1080p or 720p) since these are the most important factors that affect your buying decision and are also closelly related to the price. As a rule of thumb each category will contain models of the same manufacturer, each model being the representative of a size and resolution.

They have the deepest black levels you can see in a plasma TV or any other type of HDTV for that matter. Because of these very deep black levels, the overall picture quality of Pioneer Kuro displays is exceptional. The side effect of having such deep black levels is a positive one: you get great contrast ratio and color reproduction and that means a superb picture. However, because they are the best they cost more money than other plasma TV models.

Most plasma TV models have sizes from 42" up to 65" and the bigger they are, the higher the price is. But the cost is not the only factor you should use when deciding what size your plasma TV should have. One very important thing you have to know, is how the plasma TV size, resolution and the viewing distance relate with the amount of picture detail you are capable of seeing.
